Hope is a 3 month old Australian Cattledog puppy that was turned in to a local vet office a short time ago. She was found in a box on the porch of an abandoned house in a high-crime neighborhood. This neighborhood is not unknown to the world of dog fighting. Often, puppies are used to train fighting dogs to be aggressive and it is our suspicion that this poor creature has been put to such use.
On arrival, she was so weak that she was unable to stand or drink. She had extensive bite wounds to her throat and shoulder with necrotic skin surrounding them. She had little body mass from malnutrition making her pelvis and ribs stick out. Her chances for survival were bleak but, fortunately, the kind souls at FACE Spay/Neuter clinic (where she was dropped off) helped stabilize her.
While they could get this pitiful creature off death's door, they could not care for her further. This is where we stepped in. We have been responsible breeders of dogs for some time and are in the health care field. We felt that we could help get her on her feet and leading a better life. Unfortunately, her wounds are so extensive that she will likely require weeks of pain medicine, antibiotics, and multiple surgeries.
